Groundhog Day grew out of a mainly German superstition that if a hibernating animal casts a shadow February 2-- the Christian holiday of Candlemas -- winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow is seen, legend says spring will be early.
As the light grows longer
The cold grows stronger
If Candlemas be fair and bright
Winter will have another flight
If Candlemas be cloud and snow
The cold grows stronger
If Candlemas be fair and bright
Winter will have another flight
If Candlemas be cloud and snow
Winter will be gone and not come again!

Oh I do so hope that the groundhog doesn't see his shadow today! Maybe we could club together and get him some really dark sunglasses so he couldn't see it anyway?! Would that help spring to arrive early? If so you can have all my 'nip money for the sunglasses as I want spring and lotsa time playing in my run again! :)
Purrs,
Ramses
I don't know about our groundhog today yet. It is cloudy right now where I live so if the shadow isn't there that will mean early spring. We just had a big snow storm yesterday or spring would be great! Stop over to my place, I have an award to for you.
like sassy kat, we have an award for you, too, beautiful sister!
we don't really mind winter. it means lots of home time with mom. that's a good thing, right?
mom says to tell you '42--in less than 6 weeks'. she says you'll know what she means.
we love you!

We hope the groundhog does not see his shadow. It has been WAY too cold this winter. :-(
I am so disappointed he saw his shadow :-(

I certainly hope he does not see his shadow. We have had a very long winter!
It's so bad that my human can't even get up to ski!
If there' any groundhog around here they will need help burrowing out from under all the white goop on the ground.
That's very interesting Miss Peach, we don't have groundhogs here in England. I do like your groundhog day photograph. Very elegant pose. FAZ
That picture of you is so pretty Miss Peach. A kitty and a patch of sunshine is a lovely sight. Poor groundhog, I bet he's sleepy.
Soon the sunny days will become more frequent and we can take naps, soaking in the warmth. Won't that be nice? :) Have a wonderful day Peach and Karla!
Love and Purrs,
Lorianna
That silly Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow!!
Just so long as there is lots of sunshine!
The sun came out and Puxatawney Neelix saw his shadow. Rats - 6 more weeks of winter in B'ham! T.
It's too cold to go out so I think that groundhog would be smart to just stay in his den and take a nap. Many thanks for stopping by my blog while I've been in surgery, recovery, and diagnosis. It's encouraging to have such good friends during this difficult time. Purrs!
I so much wish winter would go away !You look very nice on this picture and I can see your curly fur ! Yesterday evening I learned that there are also curly horses ! And as you are the first curly cat I met I had to think of you !
Happy Groundhog Day, Miss Peach. You are such an elegant and friendly kitty. We love your picture in today's post. Mickey's mom keeps us supplied with lots of treats so we love it when she visits!
purrs to you and to your mom,
Mindy & Moe
I'm crossing my paws for an early Spring! It means longer walks and less rain! J x
