MISS PEACH'S COZY COTTAGE

Welcome to the COZY COTTAGE. This is the furever home of the memory of Miss Peach, our 18 year old Devon Rex angel kitty. I am Miss Hunny Bunny, she asked me to pour you a cuppa catmint tea as you read our old fashion mewsings about this and that. Please come by often...one lump or two? Now our precious Hunny Bunny is also an angel cat...please let me be your hostess at the cozy cottage...my name is Miss Hope.

Remember...only in our tomorrows will we realize what we had in our yesterdays.

MONDAY MOMENTS AT THE COTTAGE

Last night as we watch our BOSTON REX SOX win the World Series for my sweet Peach, she sat on Lapdaddy's chest...all soft and quiet...she came on her own without any coaxing:)
This frosty morning I put this weekends cans of cat food out on the front porch step. My hope is that some wandering stranger will find themselves a good meal.
Again the litter box trip was was successful and Peach drank from her fountain some. Even though she did not eat any kibble, she was interested in the process of it being offered to her. After she ran back to her cozy bed, I brought her a can of Turkey Fancy Feast. Her ears perked when I popped the lid and she sniffed the air. I watched on my knees as she actually took two bites! Not mear licks but bites. "I hope you are happy now mommy. Now go drink your coffee and let me sleep!" Indeed I was very glad. She gave me a little gift which I returned with one of my own. I spread the white roses that the Lapdaddy had for me at the airport Wednesday night out before her on her bed. A bed of roses for a tiny precious faithful cat. Miss Peach likes pretty things and sniffed them before going back under her covers.....sleep well for the day marches on and mommy will be back to tempt you again later.
I have had four cats in my adult lifetime. My first was a pretty ginger boy name Baeba. He was mine for 13 years from the time I married at 17. He traveled with me from Germany to a cozy chalet in the mountains of Fairfield Pennsylvania where he spent the year hunting the mysteries of the woodlands in each season. He lived out his life back in Germany until kidney failure took him from me. Then a little blue~gray Persian girl name Miss Minka came to be my companion for the next 18 years. She was small like Peach but very feisty! We traveled the world also. She liked the rolling Flint Hills of Kansas where cats would wander the yard and keep her rushing from window to window as she kept our homefront safe! She traveled with us to Heidelberg for several years then back to Kansas and finally to Washington. My beloved Dennis became her Lapdaddy and a bond was formed that lasted for 10 years. Miss Minka was not a big eater and she developed kidney problems also as she got older. Being so tiny, I never wanted to let her go outside. She was an aristoCAT and I wanted to keep her safe. Dennis purrrrsueded me to change my mind and let Minka roam the gardens in our yard. I knew I did the right thing when she strolled through the hosta plants and found a favorite spot under the huge leaves. Each summer that spot became her shady haven and she would rush to greet us when we got home from work. She sleeps there still ...wrapped in her fleecy...deep and still. Then Miss Peach found her way into our lives to be a comfort to my dying mother...now I will return the favor and comfort Peach as long as she allows me the privilege.

My precious sister Peachy,

What happy news that you've eaten some Fancy Feast -- do you know that the flavor you ate is our (Ballicai) favorite flavor, too? *smile* I am delighted you have eaten, that you have drank, and that you've had a good bathroom trip. And what precious pictures of you -- I adore the one of you cuddling with your Lapdaddy *smile*.

What wonderful kitty friends your sweet Mom has had in her life. As my Mom says, kitty love is one if life's very warmest and brightest blessings.

I am wishing you a happy day with your loved ones -- and we, your Ballicus siblings, are with you, snuggling close, purring, hoping, and urging you to eat and drink even more!

Love and smiles and healing purrs from your forever-adoring sister,

Marilyn.

Dear Miss Peach...Try having your mom warming your food up just a bit in the microwave (or another way). Our noses don't work so well when we get older and we like warm food over cold when we aren't feeling well. Maybe that will perk up your appetite a bit.

To Karla, I meant to pursue the German connection with you earlier, and the mention of Heidelburg compels me.

My dad ("Karl Heinz"), who died ten years ago at age 67, was German. He was born in a small village in the north of Germany in Mecklenburg (which became East Germany), but by the end of WWII, he was in Stettin, and he and his stepmother had to leave there as the Germans were ousted from that city (now part of Poland). They had a harrowing time as refugees trying to get to the West because they did not want to come under Russian rule.

They eventually made it to Heidelburg where they moved in with an aunt.

My mother (who died in September) went to live in Heidelburg with her parents--her dad was in the US Army and part of the US occupying forces. They lived like aristocrats there in a big house that had been owned by Nazis. My dad was essentially an errand boy/servant and my mother taught him English. They fell in love, married, and eventually came to the US with my grandfather as my dad's sponsor. My dad went to a trade school in Stuttgart so he would have a skill for the US. (Oddly enough, he was drafted in the US Army about 5 months after he arrived, was shipped to Okinawa, Japan, and that's where he received his US citizenship.)

Dad took me on an amazing "roots tour" in 1991. The Wall had come down, and it was the first time he returned to his hometown. His nervousness at being "in the East" was inexplicable to me. We had a wonderful time, just the two of us, and I will always cherish the memories from that special trip.
